We agree. Traffic is yucky. That’s why the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) went knocking on the doors of local businesses along some of El Paso’s most congested roadways on the westside and asked them how they could help give frustrated motorists relief.

Boy, did those businesses come through! More than 30 businesses signed up and are now offering commuters special deals as part of the Traffic Jam initiative.

Motorists with flexible schedules can find deals on almost everything – burgers, yogurt, flowers, coffee, shoe repairs, haircuts, Chinese food, pizza, psychic services, printing services, and so much more.

The program represents a new generation of approaches to roadway construction delays by offering incentives to motorists to delay being in traffic and waiting it out while taking advantage of some great deals. Simultaneously, local businesses have a chance to earn new customers with the support of TxDOT's online reach to more than 10,000 Twitter and Facebook followers. It’s a win-win-win!

Participating businesses are being promoted digitally and mostly through social media – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Social media messages include the hashtag #epjam to help people find deals.

Like the Angry Owl Southwest Grill & Cantina and its $10 “Stuff Your Beak” special. Best bang for your buck.

Or head to the Rooftop SkyGarden & Grill, which has upped the ante with its $1 tacos ‘Traffic Jam’ special. Can’t wait to grab these babies.

On Facebook, Peter’s German Grill & Bakery comes highly recommended. Their ‘Bratwurst on the Roll’ looks deeeelicious.

Have you tried Tosca Stone Oven Pizzeria at 4017 N. Mesa St. or Hunan Palace at 3737 N. Mesa St.? Great eats!

The restaurants are tempting; but, here are more participating businesses that all want to be your next Traffic Jam Spot.
